A senior official of the National Identification Authority (NIA) has died after armed men attacked a delegation of the National Peace Council in a district of the Northern Region.

The attack in Saboba on Thursday also injured many other people.

Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed told Joy News that the attack is linked to an ongoing dispute over the chieftain between two Konkomba rivals in the community.

JoyNews learned that the gunmen opened fire at a community school where the peace council delegation was going to start a meeting with one of the factions.

It is said that the deceased was attending the call for peace when the armed men shot him several times and he died on the spot.

Reports further indicate that his body has been deposited in a morgue in Yendi.

The dispute broke out in the community about five years ago when community members rejected a chief selected by the Yaa Naa.

The Northern Region minister, however, has urged calm among community residents as he says security has increased.
