The secretary general of the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC) says his next administration has a special package for the vulnerable in society, including orphans, widows and the elderly.

Johnson Asiedu Nketia said that should the party be elected in the December 7 elections, the administration of former President John Mahama will establish special homes for the elderly in need and provide free health care to all people over 60 years of age. .

Asiedu Nketiah also said that widows will be protected through a legal instrument to ensure that they benefit from the property of their deceased husband, as well as to protect them from harassment or intimidation.

He explained that the new law, when approved, will complement the 1985 Intestate Succession Law, Law 111 of the PNDC.

The NDC Secretary General made this known when he addressed a mini-durbar of chiefs, elders and cashew nut farmers at Baano No.2 in the Jaman South constituency as part of the standard bearer’s Bono regional campaign tour of the NDC on Tuesday.

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah was concerned about the inadequacy of legal protection for domestic workers, noting that some people take advantage of the situation to deceive and unfairly treat their domestic workers.

He said the next NDC government will address the situation by passing a law to protect domestic workers.
