New unit training begins next week

Police Inspector General Mohammed Adamu has revealed that a new police unit is being established to replace the disbanded Special Anti-Theft Squad and that training begins next week.

Adamu assured that all cases of police brutality will be investigated and the perpetrators will be brought to account.

Adamu stated,

“We just disbanded (SARS) yesterday (Sunday), so the protesters should calm down and give us time to fix the problem. The general public will be part of the process of obtaining a new outfit.

“I am talking to you, so I will continue to talk to many others and involve civil society and get your opinion on the new unit.”

He said the issue of compensation to the families of those harmed by SARS will be addressed when the investigations are completed.

“We want justice to be done and justice done”, he said.
