A quarter of children worldwide do not brush day and night, with a 5% reduction in brushing twice a day for parents and a staggering 11% drop for children compared to two ago years1, according to a new global study2 commissioned by Pepsodent.
Research that surveyed nearly 7,000 participants from eight countries and 15 dentists from three countries revealed an expanded challenge in how adults and children view oral care.
Seven out of ten people say they have focused more on their physical and mental health, but not on oral care, while two out of three (64%) people admitted that they are not concerned about their oral health despite the fact that the 70% have experienced oral care problems such as tooth pain. and cavities since the COVID-19 outbreak.
Research also shows that poor oral habits of parents affect their children. Children are seven times more likely to not brush their teeth if their parents do not brush day and night, and experts agree that maintaining a brushing routine day and night is vital.
Dr. Paapa Puplampu, President of the Ghana Dental Association explains: “Tooth decay is the most widespread disease worldwide and tooth decay is common among children. These can be easily prevented by establishing a regular routine to brush both day and night with a fluoride toothpaste5. Pepsodent’s research results reinforce the importance of parents prioritizing their own oral health, as children imitate their habits. ”
However, research found that three in five (61%) parents let their children eat sugary foods before bed, while one in three (35%) parents have told their child that they do not need to brush their teeth. As a reward.
