The 51-year-old has praised the Nigeria international for the King Power Stadium team’s recent impressive form
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and manager Tim Sherwood has praised Wilfred Ndidi’s contribution to Leicester City since returning from injury.
The 24-year-old midfielder suffered a groin injury early in the season that kept him out of action for about three months.
Ndidi returned from injury against Sheffield United on December 12 and helped the Foxes secure victory in the game.
Leicester City have won four of their last five games since the Nigeria international recovered from a groin problem, including a 2-0 win over Tottenham last time out.
The Foxes’ impressive performances ensured their progress up the Premier League table to second place after amassing 27 points in 14 games.
Sherwood has attributed Leicester’s fine form to the Super Eagles star’s strong defensive displays and believes that with the midfielder, Brendan Rodgers’s men can extend their winning form when they face Manchester United on Boxing Day.
“They have brought Ndidi back, I think he has given them an injection of energy that they lacked in that area of midfield, to complement Tielemans and Dennis Praet,” Sherwood told Premier League Production.
“Maddison has come back to life because they have their energy in the midfield area and if the Manchester United defenders left, Vardy would run there and hurt them and stretch them out the side.”
Ndidi has been a constant player for Leicester City since he partnered with the Belgian Genk club in 2017.
Last season, the Nigeria international played 32 league matches for the King Power Stadium team to help them finish fifth in the Premier League table and secure a ticket to the Europa League.
This season, Ndidi has only made eight appearances in all competitions for the Foxes, including six in the English top flight due to injury problems.
The midfielder is expected to be on parade when the King Power Stadium team take on Manchester United.
Ndidi is also a key member of the Nigerian national team and has played more than 30 games for the West African team.
His recent injury problem forced him to miss the Super Eagles’ final African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone, but he hopes to return to the team in his next outing of the campaign.
