The incumbent deputy for the Asuogyaman constituency and former executive director of the area district, has retained his post.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko, with his re-election, becomes the first deputy from the constituency to be re-elected for the second consecutive term since the beginning of the Fourth Republic in 1992.
He garnered 24,439 votes to beat his top contender, Paul Asare Ansah of the New Patriotic Party, a former director general of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GHAPOHA), who also garnered 23,201 votes in the tight race.
The total number of votes cast was 47,640 of the 48,073 expected in the registry. 433 votes were rejected.
In the presidential election, current PNP President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo obtained 22,232 votes, while former NDC President John Mahama obtained 24,470 valid votes.
The Ghana Trade Union Movement candidate got 22.
Mr. Ampem Nyarko, after being declared the winner by the constituency teller, thanked voters for their unwavering support for him and the NDC presidential candidate, who had secured such massive votes.
