Renowned journalist Abdul Malik Kweku Baako has described NDC’s plan to prevent the Election Commission from registering voters on Thursday, October 1, 2020, as “ an exercise in futility. ”
The EC intends to embark on another registration exercise for Ghanaians who were unable to do so.
In a statement, the EC said that this is to “give the opportunity to those who have reached the age of eighteen (18) and to Citizens who for one reason or another could not register in the recently completed Registration Exercise.”
The one-day exercise is expected to take place at all commission district offices across the country.
Registration will begin from 7 am to 6 pm.
The opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC), which is against this measure, is in court seeking “a declaration that the EC cannot proceed to reopen and / or carry out the voter registration exercise scheduled for Thursday, October 1. of 2020 without first publishing in the Gazette, twenty-one (21) days of notification of this voter registration to political parties and the general public ”.
However, the editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, who was contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, said “after looking into the crystal ball, this is going to be an exercise Useless”.
