The Member of Parliament (MP) for the North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has said that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would have created the Oti region if they had won the 2016 general election.
According to him, the Oti region is not an achievement of the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) because the NDC has promised the creation of the new regions in the 2016 manifesto.
During a community engagement held at Abotoase within the Biakoye constituency of the Oti region, where running mate Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman was officially introduced to voters, Mr. Ablakwa said that the creation of new regions “is nothing new”, but developing it is necessary.
He said the government should have priorities in developing the newly created Oti region, but not create the region just to leave the area undeveloped. The deputy said that the PNP government should have considered creating avenues that provide jobs for young people in the region and bring infrastructure development, including water and sanitation.
However, he noted that the Oti region has benefited from the NDC government in recent years in the development of infrastructure such as the E-Block, roads, schools and health infrastructure.
Mr. Ablakwa therefore asked people to vote for the NDC in the upcoming elections on December 7th if they want the abandoned projects in the area to be completed. He said that John Dramani Mahama is a visionary leader therefore they should make history by bringing him back to power in 2021 to allow the next John and Jane government to develop the area and provide job opportunities to people.
For her part, Professor Jane Naana urged voters not to consider “skirt and blouse”, but to vote for John Mahama and NDC parliamentary candidate Kwadzo Aboagye, this to allow the NDC to have a majority in parliament to allow fluidity in the development of the region.
He is expected to tour Karachi East, West, Nchumuru, Nkwanta South and North as part of his two-day tour of the Oti region that began on Friday, October 29, 2020.
