NDC will prioritize the welfare of the elderly – Jane Naana | Politics

In the quest to promote the well-being of the elderly, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, candidate for vice president of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has given the assurance that the welfare of the elderly will be prioritized by the next NDC administration.

“The well-being of our older people is fundamental to us,” he said.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang, who provided the security during an interaction with senior citizens at the AYA Community Center in Ampain in the Ellembelle district of the western region, said that the NDC had designed a series of social welfare interventions to take care of the effective to the elderly.

According to the Running Mate, which lamented the challenges faced by seniors, the NDC would replicate the AYA Community Center concept across the country.

The AYA Community Center, with the goal of enriching the lives of senior citizens by providing quality health care, food, and recreational and vocational activities in a safe environment, currently cares for more than 3,000 seniors in the Ellembelle district.

The Center also had a food bank that served daily meals and weekly meals to the elderly and needy people in the communities.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang praised the Center for the immense contribution to improving the well-being of the elderly and assured the elderly throughout the country, especially in communities, where the elderly were labeled as witches, of similar support.

She commended recipients for participating in recreational and vocational activities at the facility and announced her intention to create a platform for them to share their experiences with youth.

The vice presidential candidate explained that compiling their life experiences into a book would enable young people to learn how to become productive citizens.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, who met with the beneficiaries during her campaign tour of the region, was accompanied by Ms. Matilda Amissah-Arthur and Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament for Ellembelle and Executive Director of the Centro, and Sam Pee Yalley, former Ghana High Commissioner in India, among others.

Yalley in her comments said that the NDC believed that replicating the concept across the country would ensure that the elderly were comfortable in their old age, and would also help protect them against challenges such as neglect and labeling as witches and wizards.
