The Democratic National Congress (NDC) says it will offer a well-functioning Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) program when you are elected to power in the December elections.
According to the party, under its Free Primary Health Care (FPHC) policy, the public will have access to free medical care at polyclinics, health centers, Community Health Planning Services (CHPS) complexes and district hospitals throughout the country.
He added that a patient would not need to be in the National Health Insurance Plan (NHIS) to benefit from the policy.
NHIS
Speaking at the NDC’s weekly press conferences in Accra on Thursday, October 8 to outline health policies and programs in his manifesto, a former Communications Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, said the policy would focus on interventions from health promotion, preventive health and improve the NHIS.
Dr Boamah, who is also a spokesperson for the NDC health campaign, said that the implementation of the policy would be financed from the country’s crude oil revenues entering the consolidated fund, as well as other tax revenues. and non-taxable that also enter the fund.
He described the policy as “the largest social intervention of the fourth republic”, and expressed the conviction that “the policy will strengthen the weakened financial health of the NHIS and provide the plan and the opportunity to pay the debts incurred with service providers.” .
“In Ghana, so far, the NHIS doesn’t even cover 40 percent of the population. Between 2017-2019, the NHIS recorded a 0.8 percent increase in coverage over the three-year period.
“If you contrast this with the estimated 6.6 percent increase in Ghana’s population over the same period, you will understand why the promise of the PNP in this election to use the NHIS to achieve SDG 3, Health for all Ghanaians, in the next nine years The years cannot be trusted and must be rejected by the electorate, ”he said.

Dr. Boamah said the policy will, among other things, eliminate out-of-pocket payments, reduce long wait times at health centers, and improve NHIS.
“To reduce long wait times at healthcare facilities, patients will be tested, blood glucose level tested at local reputable pharmacies or drugstores for a fee to be paid by the government.
This will diversify the range of services offered by pharmacies and drug stores and create more jobs, “he explained.
He said the policy will also reduce pressure on secondary, tertiary and quaternary health facilities, including treating the dreaded “no bed syndrome.”
Dr Boamah said the policy will reintegrate eHealth to facilitate the provision of primary health care and save costs.
“With free primary health care, no one, that is, no Ghanaian, will pay a pesewa in any primary care center when they are treated,” he emphasized.
Other health policies
On other health policies in the NDC Election 2020 manifesto, Dr. Boamah said, among other things, that the NDC will establish a housing plan for healthcare workers, implement tax breaks to help workers from healthcare to acquiring vehicles and employing the accumulation of all unemployed qualified healthcare professionals.
