The Democratic National Congress (NDC) will elect the next Speaker of Parliament because he won the majority of seats in the recent general elections, said the chairman of the largest opposition party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.

At the celebration of the 39th anniversary of the December 31 Revolution on Thursday, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo said: “We want to say with authority that the NDC believes that we have a majority in Parliament.”

“We will use all legitimate and legal means to define that majority.”

“We will not allow anyone to subvert the will of the people. We will elect the next President of Parliament because the voice of the people represents the voice of God ”.

According to the results declared by the Electoral Commission, the NDC has 137 seats, while the NPP has 137 seats.

The only independent elected deputy has publicly expressed his desire to support the PNP, from which he was expelled after deciding to run as an independent candidate in the recently held elections.
