NDC unhappy with NPP using bosses to poll votes

The opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC) in the northeast region has rebuked the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) and urged it to stop employing bosses to campaign for them before the December 7 elections.

The NDC described the use of the leadership institution by the PNP as “disgusting” for its political campaigns.

According to the NDC, this strategy adopted by the PNP will only bastarize and defame the institution of leadership and will further damage peace in the region.

The NDC in a statement said: “Evidence abounds to show that chiefs have been recruited and are campaigning for the NPP using the ‘Name’ of the NAYIRI (The Supreme Lord of Mamprugu).

“We hereby remind these leaders who have bowed to these mundane PNP offers that if they choose to bypass the NDC, we will treat them as mere PNP supporters on a collision course with the NDC.”

Ghana’s constitution prohibits chiefs from participating in mainstream politics.

THE NDC CONDEMNS THE PNP FOR USING CHIEFS TO CANVASS FOR VOTING IN THE NORTHEAST REGION.

The Democratic National Congress with this communiqué calls on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party in the Northeast Region to stop with immediate effect the recently adopted strategy of employing certain chiefs to campaign for the PNP, be it overt or disguised.

It is very disgusting, but it is not surprising how the PNP and its officials, having lost it, now resort to using this sacred institution as a platform to solicit votes.

Thus, we note that this simple and evil strategy will only bastardize and smear the institution of headship and further damage the peace we enjoy as a Kingdom.

It is worth noting that, at a time when cool and sober heads should have prevailed, PNP leaders are orchestrating ploys to destabilize and change the peace long enjoyed by their simplistic political achievements.

Evidence abounds to show that chiefs have been recruited and are campaigning for the PNP using the ‘Name’ of the NAYIRI (The Supreme Lord of Mamprugu).

We hereby remind these bosses who have bowed to these mundane PNP offers that if they choose to bypass the NDC, we will treat them as mere PNP supporters on a collision course with the NDC.

Unfortunately, these bosses are emboldened by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Local Government Minister Hajia Alima Mahama through their tacit endorsement and patronage. Otherwise, we challenge the vice president to condemn these activities of the PNP-sponsored bosses if he is clean and innocent.

We all have a duty to the Kingdom, God and the Homeland to jealously protect our heritage, the peace and stability of the Region before, during and after the 2020 general elections.
