Former President John Dramani Mahama says his government will participate in an agricultural processing initiative to turn food crops into marketable products.

According to him, the predominant agricultural activities in various parts of the country have been analyzed and mapped for the initiative.

John Mahama, who spoke on Woezor TV, said the initiative would help Ghana’s agricultural sector and economy by adding value to agricultural products that will subsequently generate more foreign exchange.

“We are going to put in place processing capacities to be able to buy all the cashew nuts from farmers.

“And then to be able to process it both for internal consumption and for export.”

He explained that farmers in the Bono Este Region would be involved in the agricultural processing initiative because they produce cashew nuts and other exportable products such as pepper, corn, beans and peanuts in large quantities.

“The krobo has pepper and the pepper is an exportable article.

“If we set up a processing plant to process their pepper, we can sell something to the Ghanaian market and export something to generate foreign exchange.”
