The Democratic National Congress (NDC) says it will expand the scope of the Free Senior High School program if it secures victory in the next general election.

The standard-bearer’s running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, revealed that private sector senior schools should also be integrated into the national initiative.

The former Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast made these comments at the launch of the party for the 2020 elections with the theme dubbed; ‘People’s Manifesto: Jobs, Prosperity and More’.

“We plan to make Free SHS more inclusive by expanding it to cover private high school students in underserved and underprivileged parts of the country,” he said Monday.

The program has been a flagship policy of the current PNP administration that has substantially increased enrollment in upper secondary schools.

Former President John Mahama has made public his commitment to review the police if he is given the go-ahead in the polls.

The NPP has also interpreted the revision to mean a total cancellation, a development that the NDC has fought vehemently.

But Professor Opoku-Agyemang says the party will expand the reach for private school students, especially in hard-to-reach communities.

Speaking at the Accra University for Professional Studies, the former Minister of Education also indicated that the government will absorb 50% of the tuition fees of tertiary education students across the country.
