The minority in Parliament has threatened to use legal means to challenge the decision of the Audit Service Board to audit the foreign travel of the Auditor General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, who is currently on leave.

This comes after the Board appointed a private company known as K&A Accounting Services to audit the Auditor General’s travel abroad, as well as those of the rest of his office’s senior management.

Although Mr. Domelevo has written to Parliament to challenge the decision, the Service Board has not yet made any attempt to stop the process.

However, a member of Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Rockson Dafeamekpor, has called it unconstitutional and, if allowed to continue, it would be illegal and an attempt to usurp the powers of Parliament.

The Auditor General, who asked to continue with the accumulated leave at the beginning of the year, is expected to resume his position soon.

Speaking to the media, the South Dayi deputy explained that Article 187 (15) confers the power to audit the accounts of the Auditor General in Parliament.

He also revealed that he intends to raise the matter in Parliament later this week to assess the mood of the House.

However, Mr. Rockson advised that he will not hesitate to go to court to prevent the Audit Services Board from perpetrating what he described as “an illegality”.
