NDC has no basis to contest 2020 election results – Osei Kyei Mensah

Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu is questioning the claims of the Democratic National Congress (NDC) that he won the recently concluded presidential election.

This comes in response to the statement of the minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu, in a speech, following the resumption of Parliament on Monday, indicating the determination of the NDC to reject the election results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mr. Iddrisu and the NDC allege that the Commission made unforgivable mistakes during the compilation process.

“There are still controversial results in some constituencies across the country; in Sene. What we hope is that justice is done … we in the NDC still have some dark clouds against what has been declared by the president of the EC ”, observed the minority leader.

However, Mr. Bonsu argued in his response that there is no basis for the rejection, especially because the opposition party does not have the pink sheets, to support its claims, from the different voting centers in dispute.

“People who really want to stand on the foundation of truth must be equipped with the evidence of truth before making proclamations because, without the pink sheets, they cannot make any accusations,” he emphasized.

Background

Following the EC statement on Wednesday, December 9, the NDC announced its decision not to accept the results of the 2020 presidential elections.

From the results collated by the Commission, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (PNP), Nana Akufo-Addo, obtained 6,730,413 votes, which represents 51.59% of the total valid votes cast.

It was announced that the NDC’s John Mahama had obtained 6,214,889 votes, securing him 47.36% of the total valid votes cast.

However, according to the political party, there is “overwhelming” evidence that the candidate and former party chairman, John Dramani Mahama, had won the election.

The NDC believes that there were various measures to deprive the party of its presidential and parliamentary victory.
