The opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced the removal of Mr. Kwadwo Nyame Datiakwa, who has declared his intention to participate in the next general elections as an independent parliamentary candidate.
Mr. Kwadwo Nyame Datiakwa was appointed Kintampo South District Executive Director (DCE) in 2009 by the late President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills. Although many expressed shock at his appointment, the NDC party supported him to succeed.
Later, in 2016, he participated in the constituency’s parliamentary primaries, but unfortunately suffered a crushing defeat to H.E. Felicia Adjei.
Fast forward to 2019, Kwadwo Nyame Datiakwa resurfaced after leaving the role to contest the NDC primaries, seeking to avenge his loss to H.E. Felicia Adjei.
One day after the primaries, Hon Felicia Adjei, who won the election, visited Hon Datiakwa to console him and take this opportunity to mend their differences and also ask for his help in the task ahead.
Agitated after losing a second time, he did not buy the idea and later printed posters confirming his decision to run in the next parliamentary elections as an independent candidate, refusing to listen to the advice of the party elders.
At a press conference held today by the party in the South Kintampo constituency, Kwadwo Nyame Datiakwa has been officially fired from the NDC party.
“Consequently, in accordance with article 45, 8 ‘b’ and ‘c’ of the party constitution, the party has suspended Hon Datiakwa indefinitely. For this reason, he considers himself a member of the party, he must henceforth desist from coming into contact with anything from NDC since he will do so at his own risk and expense, ”said a press release confirming the dismissal.
He adds “It should also be clear that the party has contacted and advised the executives of the electoral districts and branches against supporting his candidacy. But if the party finds substantial evidence against any party official, it will also be suspended. ”

Press release to all media …
NDC RELEASES HON KWADWO NYAME DATIAKWA, EX DCE FOR KINTAMPO SOUTH CONSTITUENCY.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen of the media, colleagues gathered here, I greet you all. I know that many of the faithful of our party present here and listening to us in their homes feel that this conference was long overdue. They are right to say it but from where I sit, this is the most convenient time to put the cat out of the bag.
Ladies and gentlemen of the press, our main reason for inviting you here is basically to use your medium to reach out to the citizens of the South Kintampo constituency and share with them the developments in the NDC party and the resulting decisions that have been taken accordingly. It is common knowledge to many in the constituency that all has not gone well between the party and its former DCE Hon Kwadwo Nyame Datiakwa. It is also an open secret to many that, Datiakwa has declared his intention to contest the South Kintampo constituency seat as an independent candidate following his defeat in the parliamentary primaries held somewhere in 2019, although most of you are also equally aware of the many efforts that the party has made to dissuade the man from choosing that path, we still owe him the responsibility of chronicling all the events that have led to this moment.
Ladies and gentlemen of the press, it all began in 2009 when His Excellency Prof. John Evans Atta Mills assumed leadership of the country and appointed Kwadwo Nyame Datiakwa as District Executive Director for kintampo South. His appointment surprised many party faithful in the constituency because he was not known in the constituency and the few people who had knowledge of his birth claimed that we were members of the PNP. In fact, there were a number of protests against his nomination as many feared that he would one day betray the party as his loyalty was questionable. Well, some party elders stepped in and he was finally confirmed for the DCE position. The party gave him maximum support and ensured that he succeeded as a DCE. Because of this, he was reappointed in 2013 to the same position to serve another term with His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as president.
Fast forward to 2016, Hon Datiakwa contested the parliamentary primaries while serving as DCE against Hon Felicia Adjei, who had not been close to constituents. In fact, many people anticipated a walk through Hon Datiakwa in that election, but things got dramatic when he sadly lost by a margin of about 40%. Many blamed his defeat on the fact that he is hard-hearted and extremely tight-fisted even with his own party executives. However, this defeat did not sit well with her and thus she abandoned the party and left the winner Hon Felicia Adjei to her faith even though her support was expected. In reality, he was not at all party activities during 2016 and 2017. But in 2018, he resurfaced and began visiting branch executives and announcing his intention to contest the primaries again in 2019.
Ladies and gentlemen of the media, let me jump right into 2020. After Datiakwa lost the primaries again to Hon Felicia Adjei, who is the incumbent MP, she began to agitate. Claiming without any evidence that the elections were rigged in favor of Hon Felicia Adjei. She filed a petition to the party and to EC on allegation of tampering, but her petition after the investigation was dismissed as she had no evidence to support her claims. Apparently she had fueled her ambition for an independent candidacy and needed a foundation to move forward. So she immediately left and began visiting branch executives to plan the evil act with them.
Comrades gathered here and our listeners out there, it should be noted that the accusation against the party that Hon Datiakwa was pledged in 2012 as the sole NDC candidate in 2016 as a condition for allowing Hon Baafi not to object is a blatant lie. The truth is that he was asked to choose between keeping the DCE post or resigning to oppose Hon Baafi as a parliamentary candidate. He opted for the position of DCE and that is why he remained for the second time. Also Hon Felicia Adjei, who is a native of Anyima and a faithful person of the party, could not prevent her from participating, as there was no basis to prevent it. Both had the right to participate and in fact they did and the best candidate won. The argument that he was not treated fairly must be discarded hereafter.
Now let me go back to the narrative on the aftermath of the 2019 primaries proper. One day after the primaries, Hon Felicia Adjei, who won the election, visited Hon Datiakwa to comfort him and take this opportunity to mend their differences and also ask for his help in the task ahead. To Hon Felicia’s surprise, Datiakwa declined his audience. Feeling that all was not well, he immediately informed the party leaders at the electoral and regional level. A delegation of highly respected elders was sent to him in the constituency, but they made no progress as Datiakwa insisted that he was not ready to make peace with Hon Felicia. The regional president and his team also took countless steps to ensure that peace prevailed, but they all proved futile. Very notable bosses were also informed of the unhealthy development in the party. They met with him and had episodes of conversations with him, but they all fell on the ears of death.
It should be noted again that, in all of these engagements, Datiakwa was offered a number of delicious promises in the next NDC government and he rejected all of them. When the constituency, regional executives, regional council of elders, and chiefs failed to persuade the former DCE to rescind his decision, the party’s national leadership came on the scene. Deputy Party Secretary General Comrade Otukono, Party Secretary General General Mosquito, Bono East minority group of deputies, led by Dr. Kwabena Donkor, minority leader in parliament, Hon Haruna Iddrisu and many prominent personalities they took turns meeting with Datiakwa. But he ignored them all and insisted on participating in the destruction of the party.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is where we’ve come to! We have no choice but to grant him his wish to leave the party to run as an independent candidate. He has stated openly on Kintampo radio stations that he is running as an independent candidate. It has continued to print its posters and they are posted in almost every community within the constituency. He has also started campaigning in the same direction, giving us enough evidence to conclude that he really is serious about his decision.
Consequently, in accordance with article 45, 8 ‘b’ and ‘c’ of the party constitution, the party has suspended Hon Datiakwa indefinitely. For this reason, if you believe yourself a member of the party, you must hereafter desist from coming into contact with anything from NDC as you will do so at your own risk. It should also be clear that the party has contacted and advised the constituency and branch executives not to support his candidacy. But if the party finds substantial evidence against any party official, it will also be suspended.
Ladies and gentlemen of the media, we will search here and answer your questions. Thank you very much for honoring our invitation.
Long live NDC!
