NDC does not agree with the CE submission procedure

The Democratic National Congress (NDC) has blamed the Electoral Commission (EC) for its inability to present the nomination at 11:00 am Wednesday morning as scheduled.

The NDC said the EC’s decision to use a provisional record for the submission process instead of a certified one explains the delay in submitting nominations.

The Electoral Commission, however, denied the claims that the Commission was to blame for the errors detected in the Identity Cards and in the forms because all minor errors were corrected and the political parties were notified in writing 10 days before the presentation of the nomination.

The NDC Secretary General, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, after submitting the nomination forms said: “If the EC had used the old voter registration, the party would not have faced the situation where the EC detected errors. and he withdrew the identity cards of some voters who approved the forms of his presidential candidate ”.

He blamed the registration failures on the hasty nature with which the EC carried out the compilation, saying: “As of today that we are submitting the nomination forms, the EC shows a provisional registration.”

He said that the nomination forms contained errors and that the PNDC Act, which was cited on the form, had been repealed.

Mr. Asideu Nketia said that the challenges facing the EC had vindicated the NDC’s position that there was no time for the Commission to compile a new record.

“Isn’t it strange that a certified record that is critical to nomination submission is not ready while the nomination process is ongoing?” I ask.

However, the deputy commissioner in charge of corporate service, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, said that it was misleading for the NDC to claim that the EC was using a repealed law, and noted that CI127 ordered the EC to use a provisional record for the submission process.

He found the accusation made against the EC by the NDC strange, since the other four applicants who had previously submitted their candidacy had not raised any problem with the process.

He reiterated the determination and resolve of the Commission to hold credible elections based on integrity and transparency.

“I can assure all Ghanaians that the process and conduct of the elections will be the best in the history of the country,” he added.

While the Deputy Commissioner clarified the matter to the NDC, the delegation organized a strike singing songs of redemption.
