The South Ketu branch of the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC) took to the streets on Thursday to protest against the recently concluded presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7.
Mr. Desmond Kwakutsey, the NDC South Ketu electoral district secretary indicated that the Electoral Commission (EC) must declare former President John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the elections or there will be no peace in the country.
According to him, the demonstration and protests are constitutional means of registering his rejection of the electoral results.
The electoral commission on December 9 declared Akufo-Addo the elected president of the general elections on December 7.
But the NDC leadership has rejected the results describing the election as “flawed.”
Mr. Kwakutsey in an interview with ModernGhana News in Akatsi South explained that “what the NDC wants from the Election Commission is to clarify the results of all the regional collation centers that we believe Mahama won en masse.”
He stated that the party will continue with street protests until the EC comes out to declare the correct results that truly reflect the will of the people.
Mr. Kwakutsey added that the EC says it is appalling how the EC keeps changing the figures, confirming its argument that the election had been rigged.
The street protest was held in Aflao in the municipality of Ketu Sur.
