The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the arrest of the president of the Association of Small Concerned Miners, Michael Kwadwo Peprah.

Reports indicate that Peprah was arrested for a Facebook post, ahead of the Association’s planned press conference.

According to a statement from NDC communications officer Sammy Gyamfi, that press conference “will expose the Akufo Addo government on issues related to mining.”

“Michael Kwadwo Peprah was arrested last night in the Ashanti region and is currently at the Kumasi Central Police Station awaiting transport to Accra, on the orders of the Minister of the Environment and main promoter of ‘Galamsey’, Professor Frimpong Boateng.

“The NDC condemns this shameful act, which is part of a desperate plan by the oppressive and despotic government Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intimidate, harass and silence critical voices ahead of the 2020 general election,” the NDC said in a statement. . issued on Sunday, August 30, 2020.
