The police administration is looking for the communications officer of the Asawase electoral district of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), among others, who allegedly broke into the Suame police station on Saturday, October 24, 2020 and “verbally and physically” attacked the service agents.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command is asking the suspects led by one Tony Aidoo to report to the police no later than Monday, October 26, 2020, to demand the release of ten suspects who, according to them, are their members.
“The Police Command has seen a video of the incident circulating on social networks, of the people who went to the Suame Police Station to perpetuate that act, especially a Yakubu Tony Aidoo from NDC and others, who were seen in the video that it hits the counter in the Cargo Office, ”said a statement signed by ASP Godwin Ahianyo, PRO of the Ashanti Regional Police Command.
Ashanti Regional Police Command embarked on a special police operation and arrested several suspected criminals to assist with the police investigation in response to recent cases of armed robbery in the metropolis.
“The Command also acted based on intelligence with regard to the alleged criminals whose names emerged during the investigation and carried out raids within the metropolis and apprehended them.
Following these arrests, some people, claiming to be members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asawase constituency, besieged the Suame Police Station and demanded the release of these suspects.
According to the police statement, “They verbally and physically attacked the police on duty.”
“The police officers on duty showed extreme professionalism and managed to normalize the situation without incident.”
