Standard bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has reiterated his plans to improve the Free SHS policy implemented by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if he is reelected to office.
The former president described the Akufo-Addo government as incapable of effectively executing the policy at its full capacity.
“Free SHS policy is a good thing, but governance requires the use of proper knowledge that the current government cannot effectively manage the system.
“Currently Free SHS is putting a certain burden on parents and their children, there are no bedrooms, there are not enough classrooms or administration blocks, the student population has increased, many are sleeping outside and coming home sick with bed bugs,” he said. . .
According to him, the NDC has always known that free SHS is a way to go, but it needs to be done right, which is why “we started building 200 SHS so that all children and students have access to an affordable education in an enabling environment.” .
He expressed his disappointment with the New Patriotic Party (PNP) for abandoning the incomplete educational structures it started, which could have helped in SHS’s free agenda.
Addressing the people of Kwasarekrom, he assured cocoa farmers that their concerns about the price of cocoa, cocoa feed roads and the price of fertilizers will be addressed.
John Mahama blamed the nuclear power plant government for making the living conditions of cocoa farmers unbearable by selling fertilizers at ¢ 800 a bag and failing to price cocoa effectively as it did under his administration.
“If you vividly recall, during my presidency we effectively managed cocoa prices for the benefit of farmers and the country in general, we know the importance that must be given to cocoa producers, under my mandate, as soon as they sell their cocoa, you immediately receive your bonuses, the fertilizers are free, unlike the government of the nuclear power plant, “he said.
Regional President Micheal Adu addressed the people of Kwasarekrom urging them to vote for John Mahama for power on December 7.
John Mahama promised a better Ghana if the electorate votes for him and his government in power.
