National House of Chiefs condemns the activities of separatists in the Volta region

The National House of Chiefs has condemned the current events in the Volta region and called for a concerted effort to ensure that the situation does not spiral out of control.

The Minister of National Security, Albert Kan-Dapaah, During a decisive meeting with the chiefs on Saturday, he briefed them on the unfolding of Togo’s secessionist attack.

As it stands, 31 members of the group have been arrested. One of them died after an exchange of gunfire with the police.

The meeting follows an attack in the early hours of Friday at the Aveyime and Mepe police station in the North Tongu district of the Volta region, alleging that a part of the Oti and Volta regions are within its territory.

The president of the National House of Chiefs, Togbe Afede, the fourteenth, called on the chiefs of the Volta region to support the government to ensure that the situation does not escalate further.

Condemning the act, he noted that the standing committee will issue an open response after the meeting on the events in the Volta region.

“This is not something anyone should tolerate. This is something that we must support the government to be done in the past so that we continue in peace as a Nation of a people with a common destiny ”.
