On Thursday, the prosecution again requested a further postponement in the case involving Menzgold CEO Nana Appiah Mensah, also known as “NAM 1”.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sylvester Asare told the Accra Circuit Court chaired by Ms. Ellen Asamoah that the prosecution was still awaiting advice from the Attorney General’s Department.

Currently, there are around 16,000 complaints in this regard.

In the last court session, the judge adjourned the matter at the request of the prosecution.

When the case was called on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, the State filed new charges against NAM 1.

Therefore, he asked the Court not to accept his plea, as there would be further instructions.

The Circuit Court on July 26 last year granted him a bond in the amount of CZK 1 billion with five bonds, three to be justified.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges initially brought against him by the State.

Initially, NAM 1 was charged with complicity in a crime, defrauding with false pretenses, conducting an unlicensed deposit receiving business, unlicensed mineral sales, illegal deposit receiving and money laundering.

He had reportedly received several sums of money, totaling GH ¢ 1.6 billion from clients.
