The mother of James Nana Womba, the main suspect in the murder of Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, has expressed her shock as she mourns the death of her son in police custody.
Mrs. Talata Nona told reporters that the last time she saw her son (Womba) was on Monday of last week and there was nothing to indicate that he was ill.
According to Madam Nona, she only gave him (Womba) money and chatted with him before saying goodbye, which would be a goodbye.
Madame Nona, who is currently unemployed, said her son had denied knowledge of the murder countless times, assuring her that things would be fine.
Womba’s mother said that although her son allegedly died last Saturday (October 17), only today (Monday, October 19) was informed by four armed men from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) around 10:00 a.m.
He said the police asked him to be present tomorrow to witness the autopsy that would be carried out on his son.
“I was only informed by my son’s girlfriend (One Veronica) that Womba was not feeling well. They told me someone gave him fried rice. I think the fried rice could be contaminated. My son could have been killed by food or some people were behind his life. “
The mother of two said she would consult her attorney for the next course of action. “I don’t know what to do now,” Madam Nona said.
She said Womba was the breadwinner for the family, noting that he did conduction, plumbing and electrical jobs with remarkable ease.
“Womba has worked with the late Professor Benneh for over a year and a half and due to his hard work, the Professor agreed to work with him after Womba’s Mistress whom he was working with traveled.”
Police have described Womba as the main suspect in Professor Benneh’s death.
Police say Womba planned the death of the law professor with three other people. So far, two people, including Opambour Agya Badu Nkansah, are in the custody of the police.
Womba, last Wednesday, appeared in Kaneshie District Court looking healthy. However, his accomplice Nkansah was unwell and was taken to hospital.
Womba and Nkansah have been charged with conspiracy and murder.
The Prosecutor’s Office had informed the Court that the Police were on the heels of the other two suspects.
Professor Benneh was murdered in cold blood at his residence in Adjiriganor in September this year.
