NDC’s John Dramani Mahama says his next administration will focus on initiatives that will create and provide jobs, and will also introduce free technical and vocational training.
According to the former president, the NDC will continue to provide the necessary infrastructure and development projects for which it stands out, but its primary focus will be on vocational training and job creation.
Speaking at Bonyere in the western region’s Jomoro constituency, Mr. Mahama said that the NDC’s million jobs plan and the free National Apprenticeship Program and TVET are important because the failure to create jobs for the large number of young people could prove disastrous for the nation.
The NDC presidential candidate who was interacting with cocoa farmers and fishermen revealed that his government will rebrand and introduce free Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) from basic to tertiary level, which would absorb in the graduates the necessary skills and would also carve out a definite career path for them.
President Mahama revealed that his interest in TVET was firmly rooted in a personal encounter he had when he went to inspect an oil and gas project and was informed by the supervisor that professional welders are often brought in from other countries because Ghana did not. . have enough trained staff to deliver job specifications.
For youth who are out of school, Mr. Mahama said that under its National Free Apprenticeship Program, the government would involve and pay master craftsmen in communities to equip and train the youth in various traditional vocations.
He added that upon completion of their training, the government would give them the tools and equipment necessary for them to earn a living.
The NDC leader also disclosed that his government will establish a petrochemical industry in Bonyere, which he says will be phase two of the oil and gas development that the NDC started in the region, adding that it will bring more jobs to the people of the area.
Therefore, he urged the Bonyere Community to vote for the NDC so that it can implement the promises contained in the Popular Manifesto.
