The presidential candidate of the opposition Democratic National Congress (NDC), HE John Dramani Mahama has started an interaction section with Ghanaians to answer pertinent questions that bother them about the manifesto promises made by the NDC.
The section called ‘Let’s talk about the initiative’ allows the former president to discuss many topics through Zoom and email exchanges to clear all doubts in the minds of the electorates and Ghanaians concerned about the political trends in the country.
In a video on his Facebook page on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, Mahama answers a question from Selasi, a Madina resident who contacted the NDC flag bearer’s office on Zoom.
Selasi, who had read the NDC’s ‘People’s Manifesto’, indicated that the promises looked good on paper and asked, “How committed are you to keeping these promises? How can we be sure that they are not just campaign promises intended solely to generate votes? Are real? and it’s you [Mahama] The real deal? “
In his response to Selasi, which he called ‘Hard Talk’, the NDC leader stated: “I know how exactly to ensure the execution of the promises that we are making. It is not political rhetoric, it is not electoral propaganda; it’s the real deal, it’s what I want to achieve. “
Mahama continued: “If it weren’t for nothing, God and the people of Ghana have put me in the highest positions of responsibility; first as vice president and then as president for a term. For me, this means that I have a mission, and this is how I see it, a mission to work with you to leave a legacy for Ghana, for us as a people and for God.
“My mission, my legacy as a politician is to build a solid economic, social and digital infrastructure with 100% access for all. This is the only way that Ghana can become a truly developed country. I started that mission during the first 4 years as president.
“Now I ask my fellow Ghanaians for another 4 years to allow them to deliver the complete package to complete my legacy. For me, it is not a game; it is not a vain search for power. That’s why I don’t just promise. Everything I have said, we would achieve it, ”said Mahama.
He said that the promises come from “issues that you, the people of Ghana, told us are your priorities” and promised that “it is my personal mission to leave a fundamental legacy for my people.”
Not a dreamer
In another response to a question posed by a lady as to whether her promises were mere dreams or not, Mr. Mahama said: “No, I am definitely not a dreamer… I am a builder with a vision for Ghana and I have the best possible equipment for help me fulfill my mission: the NDC ”.
Mahama, who served as Vice President of President John Evans Atta Mills from 2009 to mid-2012 and was subsequently elected President of the Republic in December 2012, said that the available data on his performance “is incontrovertible.”
“From 2009 to 2016, Ghana witnessed its greatest economic and social boom in all of its history … During those eight years, the NDC did indeed transform Ghana and change the lives of Ghanaians for the better, but we could have done much more. ” he stated.
“We went from a low-income country to a lower-middle-income country and even if we had two difficult years, GDP grew from $ 28.5 billion in 2008 to $ 55 billion in 2016,” he said. “We almost doubled Ghana’s GDP in just eight years. In 2008, only 60 percent of Ghanaians had access to electricity, in 2016, we reached almost 80 percent access, and so on.
“You don’t have to take my word for it, the data is there for all to see,” Mahama urged, emphasizing, “So yeah! I can deliver and the NDC can do it because we’ve done it before. “
