President Akufo Addo says his proactivity in responding to labor concerns prevented many labor actions by workers in the past four years.
According to him, the election year has always presented workers with the golden opportunity to get the government to respond to their demands, but this year has had minimal unrest.
In a meeting with members of the Ghana Civil and Local Government Personnel Association (CLOGSAG), President Akufo Addo promised workers better times next year, adding that the strong economic pillars established by the government will pay off.
“We have a lot of work to do in the country. If we want a good lifestyle, we are all going to have to work for it from all sides, government, industry, private sector, unionism, “he said.
The president added that the collaboration will generate a climate of coordination and cordiality while the government works to guarantee equity, competitiveness and productivity.
“I think in these four years, we have seen less labor unrest in Ghana and the reason is the very proactive position that I was determined to take with anything that has to do with labor issues, not just to wait for them to ferment,” he added.
Also addressing people’s concerns about the elections, President Akufo-Addo said his government will ensure that there are free and fair elections on December 7.
He claimed that his government has no interest in using devious means to usurp power.
“My whole life has been dedicated to fighting for democracy in Ghana and I understand that democracy means giving people a fair chance to decide for themselves who they want to rule.”
“So the idea that my government or I are interested in creating a situation where Ghanaians are intimidated is abhorred,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo said he has had assurances from the leaders of the security services to ensure that the people vote in peace and security.
