The family of the late Ekow Quansah Hayford, the Mfantseman MP, has denied the narrative that he was shot by strangers in Abeadze Dominase as he was returning from a campaign on the Mankessim-Abeadze highway in the Central Region.
They think the eyewitness accounts so far don’t add up.
Patrick Eduama Annan, the deceased’s uncle, told Citi News that they suspect something suspicious in the murder of his relative.
“How can this be true and how can we accept that this is a true story? We doubt the whole story and for us to accept this is very difficult. We are only two months away from the elections and tensions are mounting. The security agencies must wake up and do their job, ”he said.
According to a witness, the alleged armed assailants stopped the MP’s vehicle, along with those of others who had joined him on the field trip, but the MP’s driver tried to pass.
The driver was reportedly shot first, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
“The [NPP] The campaign coordinator in the area was the one who was driving his motorcycle, so we saw that the robbers had stopped him, when we advanced a step further we saw that they were armed. Ekow Quansah Hayford was sitting in the front seat of the vehicle and then he started yelling ‘armed robbers, armed robbers’ so he asked ‘What do we do?’ ”, A witness related.
According to him, they tried to escape but the thieves fired at their vehicle and it stopped.
“They approached our vehicle and asked [us] to bring our valuable items. So, they took my phone and my money and I heard them ask the MP to bring their phone and money when he replied that their money… their money and they took him out of the vehicle, ”the witness recalled.
He continued: “When the thieves began to engage the MP, [robber] He said, ‘You politicians have made it very difficult to live in the country.’ They shot us all down and asked us to prostrate, so we thought they were going to shoot us. One said we’re not looking for your life … so they asked the driver why he didn’t stop when they asked him to … “
The witness commented that the thieves shot the driver in the wrist, who immediately began to shout “I’m dying, I’m dying …”
“While trying to escape, I heard some voices saying that the MP is dead. scope […] where he was shot and actually met the lifeless Ekow Quansah Hayford, ”the witness said.
