Muntaka asks the EC for the lack of names in the registry

Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak has submitted a petition to the Electoral Commission (EC) about anomalies in the new voter registration.

In his petition, the head of the Whip minority asked the EC to, among others, explain why more than 1,200 names had been removed from the register.

“The registration does not add up to the number we registered. Approximately 1242 names have been removed from the registry, we want it to be reinstalled. There are names that have been added in many polling stations. When we try to make sense of it, it is very difficult and we want them to explain it. ”

Mubarak said the EC figures for people who had registered during the exercise did not match the figures compiled by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“During the registration, we were all left with the daily statements. We have all the sheets and we know that at the end of the day a certain number of people will register. Now you come to the exhibition and you realize that the numbers are different and the simple question is where have all the names gone?

He indicated that the party could be forced to go to court if the EC does not restore the names of registered voters.

“If necessary, then we will have no choice but to go to court because we know there is a deliberation to deprive others of their rights.”

Other NDC members have also raised concerns about the lack of voter names within their strongholds on the registry in different constituencies.

The commission has denied such claims and insisted that voters who were duly registered and received voter identification cards, but cannot find their names in the provisional register, can rectify the situation through the voter exposure exercise.
