The telecommunications company MTN Ghana has threatened to take legal action against actress Salma Mumin after she accused company officials of being involved in mobile money fraud. MTN has given the actress a 24-hour ultimatum to retract the claims or face possible legal action. .

The company said the actress’s claims on social media about a transaction by MoMo and the company are false.

Ms. Mumin, on October 22, had complained through her Instagram account that an amount of ¢ 10,000 had been illegally “stolen” from her mobile money wallet without her knowledge.

In addition, he had threatened to “disturb the peace” of MTN until the money was returned, claiming that “MTN is no longer safe”.

“MTN keeps saying that no one can withdraw their Mono account without their concern, but I just found out that my more than 10,000 cedis have been taken from my mono account… MTN is no longer secure,” he wrote on Instagram.

But in a reply issued Friday night, MTN Ghana dismissed Miss Mumins’ account as false.

“As @Salmamumin is well aware, such amount was not in his MoMo Merchant Wallet and no money had been withdrawn from his MoMo Merchant Wallet as claimed,” the company said in a reply on Twitter.

MTN’s Corporate Communications Unit has given the actress 24 hours to apologize for her actions on the post, which has since been removed from her Instagram page.

“The apology must clearly state that her claim that MTN Ghana had taken money from her wallet was false and was given some prominence as in her initial post, so the company will be forced to take legal action against her,” MTN demanded.
