MTN through its Foundation on Saturday December 26 distributed 250 baskets to mothers who have given birth during the Christmas period.
The gesture by Ghana’s leading telecommunications network provider is a continuation of an annual tradition that began in 2011.
On every Boxing Day in the past 9 years, the MTN Ghana Foundation visited hospitals across the country to deliver baskets to mothers who give birth betweenth, 25thand 26th.
Today is no different, MTN distributed baskets containing baby clothes, detergents, baby oil and powder, hand sanitizers and many other items for mothers and their newborn babies.
In Accra, the train stopped at Tema General Hospital, where up to 50 baskets were distributed to Christmas-born babies and their mothers.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the distribution at Tema General Hospital, MTN Sustainability and Social Impact Manager Rhoderlyn Entsua Mensah explained that the reason behind sharing the baskets is to bless the mothers and welcome their newborn babies to the world.
“Boxing Day is a day of gift giving and for us we see it as a time to simply share the love of Christ and also share the love that MTN has for the people of Ghana.
“We wish all our mothers who gave birth during the Christmas season a Merry Christmas and we hope that the gifts we have given them will brighten their lives,” added Ms. Rhoderlyn Entsua Mensah.
On behalf of Tema General Hospital and the mothers of the babies born at Christmas, the Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS) of the Pediatrics Unit, Ms Nelly Enyimah expressed her gratitude to MTN Ghana for reminding mothers to make sure they are not left out. of Christmas while the holidays are at the hospital.
“We just want to give a huge thank you to the MTN team on behalf of the management, the nurses, the mothers, the babies. We want to give them a big thank you ”, he said.
Meanwhile, Ms Nelly Enyimah has asked MTN and other institutions to come to the aid of Tema General Hospital to fix the minor problems facing the hospital and ensure that they can provide the best medical care.
