José Mourinho believes Harry Kane will be fit to face Arsenal on Sunday despite the striker needing ice on his knee after taking a hit against Dinamo Zagreb.
Kane scored twice to give Spurs a comfortable win in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16, but was quickly substituted when he fell in pain in the 82nd minute.
The 27-year-old was seen receiving some treatment for the injury while sitting on the bench for the remainder of the match, but Mourinho played down any fears that it could affect his participation in the North London derby this weekend.
“Harry, I don’t think it’s anything big,” the Spurs boss told BT Sport after the game.
“Sunday is a game that everyone wants to play and the little things won’t stop it. I don’t have the feeling it’s anything serious. ‘
Kane had a man of the match performance with two clinical finishes in each half to bring his goal tally to 26 for the season. The forward also played a role in preserving the team’s clean sheet with a series of important punts.
“He’s doing everything,” Mourinho said of Kane’s performance. “ He’s doing the forward work of scoring goals, the teamwork of creating spaces and linking the game and the extra work that not many forwards do on defense. It helps us a lot.
“He has an incredible number of clearances in centers and corners. We couldn’t be happier. I gave a lot of the players a break and I’m very happy with what Vinicius is giving us. But with Harry on the field it’s a different story for us. ‘
The coach admitted that he wished his team had scored another goal before the return leg in Croatia next week and insisted there is still a long way to go before securing progress to the quarter-finals.
“I think one more goal would be a good reflection of the game and would put us in a much better position,” added Mourinho.
“But before the game, if they asked me if 2-0 was a good result, I would say” it’s only a good result if we do the work there. “
‘It will be a difficult match. At home they will feel more comfortable trying with nothing to lose. ”
Spurs have won their last five games in all competitions before their confrontation with Arsenal in the Emirates.
The Gunners were also victorious in the first leg of the Europa League tie, beating Olympiacos 3-1 thanks to goals from Martin Odegaard, Gabriel and Mohamed Elneny.
