Defender Moro Ibrahim scored at 20th minute to give Asante Kotoko a 1-0 win against Dreams FC in a matchday six match at Dreams Theater, Dawu.
The Porcupine Warriors entered the game without a substantive head coach following the dismissal of Maxwell Konadu on Friday following a loss at the Accra Grand Olympics.
Asante Kotoko made a great start to the game pushing the Still Believe guys to their half with a beautiful combination of Latif Anabila, Patrick Asmah and forward William Opoku Mensah.
Stand in Coach Johnson Smith started with Razak Abalora in charge and kept faith in Christopher Nettey, Moro Ibrahim, Habib Mohammed and Wahab Adams.
His great start paid off in his 20sth Minute when Moro sent a volley after a rebound from William Opoku Mensah’s close-range shot as the defender slammed a bold volley into the back of the net from the edge of the area.
For Dreams FC, the absence of Joseph Esso was greatly felt when coach Winfred Dormon paired Issah Ibrahim and Agyenim Boateng up front. While Michael Agbekpornu and Maxwell Arthur were combined in midfield.
Emmanuel Gyamfi appealed from a penalty in the 35th minute when Abdul Jalilu threw him slightly, but the referee, however, will not hear anything of his penalty appeal.
The first half seemed more lively than the second with a brilliant interposing play from Emmanuel Ocran, Sulemana Fahadi and Issah Ibrahim, but they were unable to punish Kotoko for his carelessness behind.
Dreams FC rallied stronger in the second half in search of a draw, but Kotoko’s goalkeeper Razak Abalora was always on hand to save his team.
Dreams FC brought in Black Satellites duo Sulemana Mohammed and Percious Boah for Issah Ibrahim and Emmanuel Ocran to put pressure on Kotoko. But his attack did not change the outcome as the game progressed.
The Porcupine Warriors managed to maintain the lead to record their second win of the season, bringing them to the top half of the table.
The victory is Asante Kotoko’s third in his last four visits to Dawu.
