More than 200 trainees in Accra have graduated from the project “Short-term Skills Training for Ghanaians Returning from Diaspora and Potential Migrants”.

This leads to a total of 400 beneficiaries of the project financed by the German Government under the Migration and Employment Program carried out in the Greater Accra, Kumasi and Brong Ahafo regions.

The apprentices who graduated in 11 skill areas were comprised of 293 women and 107 men.

Ms Mawusi Nudekor Awity, Executive Director of the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) in a speech praised the government for the bold initiative to transform professional education in Ghana through the Vocational Education Modernization Project being implemented by the Ministry of Education.

He said the project involves upgrading the infrastructure at the 34 vocational training institutes and two foundries, adding that 27 existing NVTI curricula would be reviewed under the project.

Ms Awity said that the NVTI has been positioned to be the foundation for Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) in Ghana.

“We are confident that with the right support, NVTI will redefine skills training at the pre-tertiary level for an upgraded skilled workforce for industry in Ghana,” he said.

He said similar graduation events have taken place at Sunyani: 77 trainees graduated in six skill areas while 110 trainees graduated in seven skill areas.

Ms. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady who was the guest speaker, said that Technical and Vocational Education is a priority for the government and that her team would ensure that similar projects are repeated across the country to create jobs for people. .

He said the government has already spent $ 600 million on TVET in the past three and a half years and that commitment has paid substantial dividends in infrastructure and human resource development.

“This is a government that is committed to solving the unemployment situation, empowering young people and creating sustainable livelihoods for citizens,” he said.
