Mohamed Salah acknowledges that he was “very disappointed” not to have received the bracelet in Liverpool’s recent Champions League game against FC Midtjylland.
The Reds lined up a much-changed side in their dead rubber game against the Danish side earlier this month.
Jordan Henderson was left out, which means that Salah was one of the oldest players to start the game.
But Jurgen Klopp chose to captain Trent Alexander-Arnold instead of the Egyptian.
Salah opened the scoring that night, but admits that his coach’s decision was difficult to make.
He told AS: “Honestly, I was very disappointed. I was hoping to be the captain, but it’s a coach’s decision. I accept it.”
Salah has been prolific since moving to Anfield in 2017 scoring 108 times in 172 starts.
His goals have helped lead Liverpool to national and European glory, but have also attracted a lot of attention.
The 28-year-old cost the Reds £ 45 million, but they could double it if they chose to collect.
Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked with the forward who has refused to rule out a Liverpool exit in the future.
“That is a difficult question, but right now I can say that everything is in the hands of the club,” he said when asked how long he sees himself at Anfield.
“Of course I want to break records here and, I repeat, all the club records, but everything is in the hands of the club.
“I think Madrid and Barcelona are two great clubs. Who knows what will happen in the future.
“But right now I’m focused on getting back to winning the Premier League and the Champions League with Liverpool.”
Salah has earned individual recognition by winning the PFA Player of the Year award in 2018.
He hasn’t won any continental awards yet, but he feels like he’s among the best players in the world.
He added: “Yes, absolutely (I am one of the best). Yes.
“When I look back on my career, I want to feel that I achieved something special, that I did something special. That’s why I try to do my best in every game and every year for the club and also for myself.”
