Several Liverpool stars including Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson sent messages of encouragement to Virgil van Dijk after it was confirmed that he had suffered a serious injury.
Center-back Van Dijk is expected to be out for much of the season after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury following an impetuous challenge from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford during the Merseyside Derby.
The Dutchman is expected to undergo knee surgery and will be out for many months.
Now, his peers have supported him on his road to recovery by sending him messages of encouragement.
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson said: “The comeback is always stronger than the backhand.
“Recover well my brother, we will be waiting for you.”
While Gini Wijnaldum tweeted: “Very sadly, the older brother injured his knee and must undergo surgery.
“We are going to miss you enormously. We wish you a speedy recovery and come back even stronger brother.”
Mohamed Salah wrote on Twitter: “I wish you a speedy recovery, great man.”
And Andy Robertson stepped up to say, “May I see this smile on your face soon, my friend!”
“We are with you every step of the way brother.”
Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock admitted that having Van Dijk offside is sure to have an immediate impact on the team, his absence could also inspire a sense of camaraderie.
“We will not know until the end of the season how much impact it will have on the Liverpool team. There will be a sense of togetherness. It will definitely hamper their defense of the title,” he said on BBC Radio 5 live.

“It’s that old cliché: ‘We’re going to win for Virgil and make sure we have something to celebrate at the end of the season.’
“But when you’re in the locker room, you look the other way and you don’t have Virgil van Dijk, this great player colossus. Defensively, when things go well and you turn around and see Van Dijk, that’s fine. Now you give. turn around and he’s not there.
“He is not disrespectful to the players who are there, but he is their number one center-back, someone who has performed at such a high level since he joined the soccer club.”
