Starting Tuesday, September 15, mobile phone users will enjoy a reduction in voice and data charges.
This follows a reduction in the communication services tax (CST) by 4% announced by the government in the budget.
A statement from the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications said the four percent reduction will represent a five percent change in the CST charge and would be applied through a tariff adjustment on network customer products and services.
“The rate adjustment program means when our customers pay the same price that they would enjoy more, which is in line with the government’s measures to alleviate the cost burden for citizens in the wake of the global pandemic,” the statement emphasized.
The chamber further explained that “the seamless reconfiguration of service provider systems to suit business and technical requirements is a testament to the effective dialogue and stakeholder engagement led by the Ministry of Finance as well as our Ministry of supervision and agencies “.
He continued by stating that mobile network operators will notify their customers about the completion of the modification exercise and provide greater transparency on the adjusted rates of their products and services, while offering other relevant information after the use of these services.
The Chamber further assured that it “remains committed to the socio-economic development of Ghana and that remains our sole objective and focus to advance and support Ghana’s digitization agenda.”
The telecommunications companies have already informed their clients that the tariff reduction will begin tomorrow.
