Mob attacks police officers in the northern region

Three policemen have been attacked by some residents of Kpawumu-Fuo in the North Region.

According to reports, Atsu Adanu, 35; Corporal Lance Mordzi Samuel, 34, and Officer Baba Iddirisu were accompanied by a whistleblower known only as Rasheed to arrest a suspect in the small community when they were attacked.

The suspect, Abdul Rahman, was wanted for stealing after the complaint reported him to Tamale police.

In recounting the incident, police said, officers had arrested the suspect and were heading back to the station when the attackers attacked them with sticks and cutlass.

The agents, who were armed with a single AK-47 rifle, were left defenseless when their attackers disarmed them, assaulted them and fled with the suspect they had come to arrest.

The complainant who managed to flee the scene called the police.

However, upon reaching the scene, the attackers had fled, leaving the agents in critical condition.

One of the officers, Atsu Adanu, had a deep gash on his forehead, while Samuel Mordzi also received a deep gash on the back of his head and forehead. Sheriff Baba Iddirisu managed to escape unscathed.

Meanwhile, the police arrested 25 people in connection with the attack and managed to recover the rifle without ammunition.

These detainees have been detained at the Regional Headquarters for questioning.
