As night approached the early hours of Monday, October 5, 2020, Kumasi representative Nellie beat the competition against ten (10) delegates to win the national crown.
The long awaited grand finale of what has been widely described as Ghana’s most relevant pageant by Kumasi Mayor Hon. Assibey, took place in the Accra Metropolitan Assembly auditorium with over 200 guests present.
MMG 2020 is a flagship event of the Miss Metro Foundation, with a focus on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically goal 6, which emphasizes sanitation and access to clean drinking water by 2030.
With Covid-19 still very active in the world, including Ghana, organizers dedicated this year’s edition of the annual contest to fighting the pandemic.
Thematic organizers of this year’s edition; “The Role of Ghanaian Women in Fighting Covid-19”.
This allowed the twelve (12) finalists to embark on a social media campaign with their Covid-19 preventive message.
They also gained public support through the voting system.
The climax of the journey that began in July of this year saw ten (10) delegates vying for the ultimate crown.
With the National Crown for Miss Grace Nellie Yeboah, a representative of Kumasi Metro, six (6) ladies were also crowned Metropolitan Queens. They are: Miss Gracilla Akade-Yeboah Sekondi / Takoradi Metro Queen, Miss Flora Adjeley Adjei Tema Metro Queen, Miss Asantewaa Osei Celestina Tamale Metro Queen, Miss Gifty Sarpong Kumasi Metro Queen, Miss Sandra Ama Atu Accra Metro Queen and Miss Afra Paloma Darkwa Cape Coast Metro Queen.
During preparations for the grand finale, the organizers recruited the National Covid-19 Response team, the Ghana Health Service, the NGO Commission for Water and Sanitation (CONIWAS), and other stakeholders in the sanitation and hygiene industry. environmental.
Speaking at the event in solidarity with the Miss Metropolitan pageant and her core vision, Ghana’s Risk Communication and Community Engagement Leader for the Covid-19 Response and Director of Health Promotion at the Ghana Health Service, the Dr. Dacosta Aboagye, reiterated the need for all people. Continue to adhere to the safety protocols established by the World Health Organization and the Ghana Health Service.
Dr. Dacosta emphasized that Ghana risks entering a second wave of the pandemic if citizens do not strictly follow protocols, especially in open spaces and social gatherings.
Therefore, he applauded the organizers for ensuring strict compliance with Covid-19 protocols during the grand finale, expressed his satisfaction with the guests wearing their nasal masks even while sitting in the auditorium.
In addition, he took the opportunity to educate the audience on the dynamics of the coronavirus, its prevention and best elimination practices.
Dr. Aboagye Dacosta congratulated the organizing team for their dedicated efforts to plan and execute what he described as “a well thought out event with safety at heart.”
Representatives from Jekora Ventures, one of the MMG contest sponsors, and Representative from CONIWAS took turns delivering messages to the guests.
Felix Laryea from Jekora Ventures spoke about the need for people to properly manage the waste they produce in their various homes.
According to him, proper sorting and handling of waste before collection by waste management institutions facilitates the treatment, recycling and disposal of unwanted garbage, a trend that could ease pressure on landfills. of the country and also reduce the financial burden of the government. when dealing with the threat of waste.
Miss Emily from CONIWAS also applauded the contest organizers and managers for carefully planning the event with a focus on sanitation and pandemic.
Miss Dzifa Gray, CEO of DG Wipes and Hand Sanitizers, in an emotional speech to delegates, encouraged them to strive for greatness, especially as they embarked on their projects during their one (1) year reign as queens.
In her presentation, she noted that such national projects require courage, positive attitude and commitment of great magnitude, so queens should not hesitate to reach out to mentors, helpers and supporters along the line in the execution of their projects.
She says such positive networks and connections can only grow her talent and develop her personality to remain relevant to the field and the nation at large.
The National Queen, Miss Nellie after her coronation in an interview with the media, reaffirmed her willingness to work with all governments and institutions involved in the fight against Covid-19, as well as their metropolitan queens in the implementation of their projects.
According to her, the time has come for Ghanaian women, especially young women, to rise up and take their rightful place as helpers and protectors of their families.
Miss Charity 2020 MMG CEO Emehill Bartels thanked the media for their continued support since the Miss Metropolitan Foundation journey began in 2017 and asked the media to be circumspect when reporting COVID-related stories.

Miss Bartels emphasized that the organizers are optimistic that the successful coronation of the seven (7) queens will pave the way for immediate implementation of projects in their various metropolitan cities in the hope that Ghana will see a positive impact from their work on the shortest possible time.
