MOYS, in collaboration with the National Sports Authority (NSA), marked the 19th anniversary of the May 9 soccer disaster that claimed 127 lives at the Accra sports stadium.
MOYS Vice Minister Perry Curtis Okudzeto, delivering the opening address on behalf of the sector Minister, Mr. Isaac Asiamah on the esplanade of the Accra Sports Stadium emphasized the government’s commitment to ensure that the tragedy that happened 19 years ago

The GFA in a statement said they are committed to honoring the memory of lost souls by continuing our efforts to improve safety standards at the playgrounds.
“The GFA wishes to appeal to all football fans, security officials, doctors and indeed Ghanaian football lovers to cooperate with the federation and other stakeholders to ensure that we do not experience such incidents in our game again. “
“We call on the clubs to continue to educate their fans about the laws of the game and remain law abiding before, during, and after league games.”
“Let us constantly remember that such a tragedy should never occur again in our beautiful game and our beloved nation,” excerpts from the statement say.
