Matt Smith, on loan from Arsenal, has caught the attention of fans after his passing ability was shown online.
The 20-year-old midfielder is currently on loan at Swindon Town from League One as he looks to gain experience and playing time.
Born in Harlow, Smith was named to the substitute bench in the FA Cup last season and played 12 games for the Under-23s, also coaching with the first team multiple times.
Smith has progressed through Arsenal’s youth ranks after having been with the club since the age of seven, signing his first professional contract in February 2019.
He was the subject of praise on social media for a surprising previous assist he made during an FA Cup loss to Darlington.
The talented creative midfielder has now repeated the skill with another spot assist for Swindon in their 3-0 loss to Accrington on Tuesday night.
Arsenal fans on social media responded to the video with one user saying ‘start with him immediately’ and another tagging exiled passing master Mesut Ozil to ask what he thinks of the pass.
“It is a pleasure to play with him (Smith). We also get along well on and off the pitch, and I’m there to help him and all the youngsters, “said Swindon midfielder Anthony Grant.
“He plays in my position, so I can help him, but he’s a very good young player who likes to step forward, catch the ball and express himself. It’s a pleasure to play with him. “
When signing for Swindon on loan earlier this year, Smith said: “I’m very excited. I feel like it will be a good experience for me and I’m looking forward to starting the season.”
“I feel like I am going to learn a lot from the coach. He is quite similar to Mikel Arteta, they are both very encouraging. The coach has made me feel welcome and I feel that the qualifications I have can match how he wants to play.”
