Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists that Thomas Partey’s first substitution in the second half of his Europa League match against Olympiacos was purely tactical.
Thomas Partey provided the assist as Arsenal took the lead in the 34th minute thanks to Martin Odegaard, but had to be replaced ten minutes after the break by Dani Ceballos.
“No, they were all tactical decisions or things we wanted to change in the game,” Arteta revealed.
“Because I wanted to change it and bring someone else to try to find other things and try to change the way with the way we were playing inside,” he added.
Olympiacos drew three minutes after the substitution of Partey through Yousef El Arabi, but a late surge from the English giants saw them regain the lead to continue and win 3-1.
Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhães put Arsenal ahead with ten minutes to go before Egyptian star Mohammed El Nenny sealed the win with five minutes remaining.
Partey has made 17 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal and has two assists under his belt.
He has yet to score his first goal for Arsenal.
