Michael Owen feels his old club Liverpool will have no problem eliminating Arsenal for the second time in a week as the two teams meet in the Carabao Cup round of 16 on Thursday.

The Reds won Monday’s Premier League game with a comfortable 3-1 score, but Jurgen Klopp is expected to sound the changes for the cup clash.

Last season, both teams played a fascinating 5-5 draw at the same stage of the competition, with Liverpool finally making progress on penalties.

And while Owen predicts another close competition at Anfield, he feels the hosts will have too much for Mikel Arteta’s men.

Owen said BetVictor : “These two meet for the second time in a week.

“Liverpool were the winner in an exciting match at Anfield on Monday and I think we could see more of the same here.

“Arsenal caused some problems for Liverpool, but the Champions League was too good that night.

“Both teams should look different in terms of their starting eleven, and while I can see Arsenal coming closer, I think the Reds will surpass it.”

Klopp is expected to hand out starts to players like youngsters Curtis Jones and Neco Williams, as well as new signings Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas.

Meanwhile, Arsenal could bring new defensive player Gabriel Magalhaes back into the fold after leaving him on the bench on Monday, while No.2 goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson could make his debut.

Elsewhere in the competition, Owen imagines that another of his former clubs, Man Utd, will knock out Brighton in another repeat encounter, having beaten the Seagulls 3-2 at the weekend.

He also envisions Newcastle going through a near clean sweep from their former employers, with Stoke the only casualties on their soccer resume as they tip Aston Villa to knock them out by just one goal.

Wins are also predicted for Everton and Man City, but Fulham’s misery could continue as their final playoff opponents Brentford are backed to enact the rematch.
