An Accra Circuit Court hearing the robbery case of the murdered Mfantsiman deputy postponed the matter until 8 February, pending three reports from the Ghana Police Service.

The reports include ballistic examination, fingerprints of the defendants, and analysis of the defendants’ phone calls.

When the session resumed on Monday, January 18, Deputy Superintendent of Police (ASP) Fuseini Yakubu told the Court that the police were awaiting all three reports.

According to ASP Yakubu, the three reports would determine the next line of action for the Police.

The prosecution announced that an alibi notice submitted on behalf of Alhassan Abubakar had been delivered to the police, but the alibi did not list the contacts, house numbers and names of witnesses.

“We need more and better details of the witnesses in our investigations,” he said.

Regarding the detailed bill of the telephone contacts of the accused, the Prosecutor’s Office said that the Police were analyzing them and added that “we need two weeks to obtain the different reports.

ASP Yakubu indicated that the Police would investigate the Alibi and when released on bail, the defendant would interfere with the investigations.

He said that the police were following up on some leads and that they (the police) did not want to reveal anything in court.

Currently, ASP Yakubu said that the police were pursuing Mohammed, an accomplice who is on the run.

Mr. Diah Marcellinius, who was brief for Mr. Martin Kpebu, for Alhassan Abubakar, admitted that he had submitted the Alibi notice and was ready to provide the Police with the details they needed so they could investigate.

Mr. Paul Kumi, a lawyer for Fuseini Alhassan, pointed out that if the postponement requested by the police was “cleaning”, then it was fair and he did not expect that a way of keeping the accused in custody would constitute a violation of their freedom.

He renewed his request for bail, noting that the defendants had been detained since October 16 of last year. Defense attorney said there was “no news” about Ballistic’s test.

Mr. Kumi pointed out that the phone calls and the rest had been handled by the police and that there was no way for the accused to interfere with the investigations.

The lawyer said the defendants were willing to provide guarantees to enforce their bond. The defendants are: Alhassan Abubakar alias Abu Fulani, Naziru Fudailu Nash, alias SP, Alhassan Mahama Yahaya, alias Mystical Cloud, Amadu Yakubu, Haruna Osmanu, Adam Alhassan, Fuseini Alhassan, aliases, Black Smith, and Fred Tetteh, aliases, Walace and a Mohammed and others said to be on the run.

The defendants face various charges of conspiracy to commit crime and theft. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Alhassan Abubakar, also known as Abu Fulani, was a mobile phone repairer residing in Akwatia Line, Kumasi and Naziru Fudailu Nash, alias, SP, a businessman who lived in Aboabo No. 2, Kumasi.

The prosecution said that Alhassan Mahama Yahaya, also known as Mystical Cloud, was unemployed and living in Dansoman in Accra, Amadu Yakubu, a mobile money broker in Mankessim Zongo, while Haruna Osumanu, was a merchant living in Mankessim.

He said that on October 9 this year, around 0100 hours, the police had information that armed robbers had barricaded a section of the road between Abeaze-Dominase and Duadze on the Mankessim Assufosu road, robbing travelers of their mobile phones. , money and other valuables. .

The prosecution said police quickly mobilized the men and proceeded to the scene, but narrowly missed the thieves. At the scene, he said police saw several vehicles parked on the road with some of the victims who had suffered varying degrees of gunshot wounds and one death.

The prosecution said a body was subsequently identified as Mfantsiman’s Member of Parliament Ekow Quansah Hayford. He said two of the victims, Patrick Asante, a Kia truck driver, and Uncle Issah, the MP’s driver, were seriously injured. The prosecution said police cleared the road to restore traffic flow and transferred the victims to hospitals in Winneba and Cape Coast for medical attention. He said the body of the deceased member of Parliament was later deposited in the Saltpond morgue pending an autopsy.

According to the prosecution, investigations revealed that, the late Mfantsiman deputy submitted his nomination form on October 8 this year for re-election and decided to visit four communities in the Taabosom electoral area namely; Effutakwa, Opim, Takoradi and Duadze. He said the MP arrived with his campaign team aboard a Mitsubishi pickup in the New Patriotic Party colors and the thieves immediately fired at the vehicle, blowing up the vehicle’s tires, which eventually came to a halt after hitting a ditch. The prosecution said the thieves surrounded them and demanded all their valuables. The robbers pointed a gun at Stephen Allan and asked him if he was the deputy, to which he responded negatively.

The prosecution said that Mr. Hayford, the MP admitted that they pounced on him and picked up his Samsung Galaxy 850 mobile phone and also demanded money.

He said the late deputy told the thieves that he had spent all his money when he was returning from a campaign tour. “He, therefore, begged them to take him home to give them money, but they refused and shot him, killing him instantly,” the prosecution said.

He said police traced the deceased’s mobile phone to Kumasi and arrested Nash in Aboabo in possession of the deceased Samsung Galaxy 850, where Nash named Abubakar as the person who sold him the phone for GH ¢ 780.00. The prosecution said Nash led police to the Akwatia line, where Abubakar was also arrested.

Abubakar mentioned Mohammed as the one who sold him the phone for GH ¢ 680.00, which led to the arrest of Yahaya, Yakubu, Osumanu and Alhassan, in connection with the theft and murder of the MP.

The prosecution said that efforts were being made to arrest Mohammed and other accomplices.
