Methodist University College Ghana awaits accreditation to introduce new programs

Methodist University College Ghana (MUCG) is awaiting approval from the National Acceleration Authority to introduce a couple of new programs.

The programs are Bachelor of Nursing, Master of Information Technology, Master of Educational Evaluation and Evaluation, Master of Educational Administration and Supervision, Master of Educational Leadership and School Improvement, Master of Entrepreneurship and Corporate Strategy, Master of Educational Evaluation and Evaluation, and MPhil in Educational Administration and Supervision.

The rest are MPhil in Educational Leadership and School Improvement, MPhil in Business and Corporate Strategy and PhD in Education, Evaluation and Educational Evaluation,

Professor Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, president of the University College who spoke at the 18th ceremony of the Virtual Congregation in Accra, said: “We are also awaiting accreditation to execute the Doctorate in Counseling Psychology.”

The graduating class is made up of Master of Business Administration (114) and Master of Education and Business (81), making 195.

For the Faculty of Business Administration, it includes three First Class, 66 Second High Class, 148 Second Low Class and 11 Third Class, totaling 228.

In the Faculty of Arts and General Studies; 10 students had First class, 22 had High Second class, 20 had Low Second class, and two had a third class for a total of 54.

The College of Science had 36 students, seven of whom had First Class, 16 Second Upper Class, 11 Second Lower Class and two of Third Class.

The president said that as part of the desire to produce graduates fit for the 21st century job market, University College developed more graduate programs and received accreditation to introduce some programs in the 2019/2020 academic year.

These programs are MEd in Educational Leadership and Innovation, MEd in Educational Management and Practice, and MA in Small Business Management.
He said the first group of 81 students who signed up for these programs will graduate today.

“For the current academic year, 2020/2021, the institution has obtained accreditation to execute the Master of Entrepreneurship and admissions are ongoing,” he added.

He commended the Ghana Methodist Church for the tremendous support and encouraged the Church to continue investing in the University as a way to enhance the image of the Church in spreading the Gospel of Christ and also contribute to national development.

The president called on graduates to be confident and avoid excessive dependence on others, “take your time to make all the important decisions in life and be responsible for such decisions.”

He asked them to always keep in mind that people would be watching and evaluating them and, at the appropriate time, they would judge them.

“Above all, study and know how to handle your boss and those close to you,” he advises.

He urged them to develop consistently and consciously, and move toward achieving their goals, “you can’t get there in a day or two and avoid shortcuts.”

“Let us observe peace, let us preach peace and practice peace. Don’t let anyone use you,” he said.

He said that between now and December 7, 2020, “let us continue to be aware that no place can be better than home.”

Dr. Yaw Osei Adu-Twum, Deputy Minister of Education commended the Methodist Church for its contributions to education and other sectors of the economy.

He said that the government as part of its commitment has placed great emphasis on education.

He asked graduates to be more creative and innovative in creating their jobs.
