Mesut Ozil wasted no time reacting to Germany’s surprising 6-0 loss to Spain after using Twitter to attack manager Joachim Low.

Germany suffered their worst defeat since 1931 when they were defeated in Seville, ensuring that the home team advanced to the finals of the Nations League next year at their expense.

Ozil’s international career ended after the 2018 World Cup, when Germany exited the group stage.

After feeling like a scapegoat, the Arsenal midfielder announced his retirement from international football shortly after the tournament, feeling that he did not have the support of German officials.

Compatriots Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller have also had their international careers cut short by Joachim Low in the two years since he seeks to rebuild a new team in his fourteenth year in charge.

But after Germany had a dismal performance in Spain on Tuesday night, Ozil suggested a possible retirement of one of his former teammates to help repair a leaky defense.

Posting minutes after the full-time whistle, he said: “It’s time to get Jerome Boateng back,” and put the Bayern Munich center back in place.

Ozil’s international withdrawal came amid controversy following a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan before the World Cup in Russia.

The playmaker, who has currently been banned from Arsenal’s first-team squad until at least January, has Turkish ancestry and felt he had no support from anyone within the German setup.

“My job is a footballer and not a politician, and our meeting was not an endorsement of any politics,” he said after retiring from international soccer.

“The treatment I have received from the DFB (German Football Association) and many others means that I no longer want to wear the German national team jersey.

“I feel unwanted and I think what I have achieved since my international debut in 2009 has been forgotten.”

Germany only needed a draw against Spain to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the Nations League that begins next October.

But they appeared dead and buried before the break when they were shattered by Spain, who opened the scoring with a header from Álvaro Morata, before Manchester City couple Ferran Torres and Rodri attacked before the break.

Torres added two more goals in the second half to complete his hat-trick, with Mikel Oyarzabal rounding the score one minute from time.
