Ashanti Gold SC recorded their first win of the season when they came back to beat Elmina Sharks FC 4-2 in a five-game encounter on Sunday.
The sheer beauty of Appiah MCarthy from a free kick sealed the miners’ victory as they capped off a beautiful afternoon at Len Clay Stadium. Dacosta Boadu, scored two goals earlier with David Abagna Sandan also on target for the Obuasi boys.
The miners win their first loss of the season at the hands of Elmina Sharks after going undefeated in the first four games.
Ashanti Gold’s coach Milovan Cirkovic made four changes to his team with Robert Dabuo replacing Mohamed Bailou at the post.
Atta Kusi also took the place of Kwadwo Amoako on the right back. Meanwhile, Dacosta Boadu replaced the injured Hans Kwofie. Former Dreams FC captain Abdul Bashiru paved the way for Roland Amouzou.
For Elmina Sharks, Daniel Nii Adjei had his first start in the Sharks jersey when he replaced Benjamin Arthur.
The visitors opened the match scoring as early as 3 minutes after Benjamin Bernard Boateng benefited from a howl from the goalkeeper to concede at home.
Ashanti Gold leveled up two minutes after the break from a brilliant free throw by Appiah McCarthy.
Boadu scored his debut goal at 62 and 68 minutes into the game to give the hosts a well-deserved victory. He first scored with a good header and also headed a cross from Togolese left-back Amouzou in the 68th minute.
Sharks went back five minutes from full time through Benjamin Tweneboah.
Midfielder David Abagna Sandan put the icing on the cake in the 90th minute after a McCarthy free kick.
