Mauricio Pochettino will be in charge of finally reuniting Lionel Messi and Neymar on the soccer field, according to France.
Pochettino is set to return to management after more than 12 months on leave following his dismissal from Tottenham, replacing the recently fired Thomas Tuchel at the Parc Des Princes.
And now it will be Pochettino who will make the bold decision to remove Messi from Barcelona and pair him up front to rekindle an attacking partnership with his close friend Neymar, as Le Parisien reports.
Messi can leave Barça for free at the end of the season, and is expected to end his career at Camp Nou after a hectic summer in which a transfer request was flatly denied.
Barça had been personally notified by an official Messi’s burofax that he wished to exercise a clause in his contract to leave for free, although the Spanish giants successfully argued that it had been requested after a deadline.
Now, after staying at Barça under new boss Koeman, it is understood that Messi is weighing his options for the immediate future.
And Pochettino is targeted as the man to secure a deal for the Argentine star, to make him a great signing with the intention of initiating a reign in charge at PSG and crushing serious Champions League ambitions.
PSG is reported to be hoping to use Messi’s already existing friendships within the club to close a deal and dissuade the living football legend instead of moving to Manchester City to meet Pep Guardiola.
Messi and Neymar have been close friends since the latter’s departure from Barça, and Messi had tried on previous occasions to use his influence to bring his former teammate back to the club.
Messi is also close friends with Angel Di Maria, who is very familiar with international duty.
However, the main obstacle for PSG will come in the form of Barça’s upcoming presidential elections, which will be held early next year and will identify the successor to Josep Maria Bartomeu.
The January 24 election will see multiple candidates face off, and so far all of these folks have said the 33-year-old talisman is in their plans.
