Mass disinfection of markets begins in Oti region

The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources is fumigating the main markets and truck stations in the Oti region in accordance with national protocols to disinfect these public facilities.

The exercise, an initiative of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources, is being carried out simultaneously throughout the country to rid public places of the COVID-19 virus and some other microscopic organisms.

The fumigation is also to make those public places safe for commerce and other business transactions as the nation strives to contain the increasing spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Some of the fumigated markets in Akan district were: Kadjebi Asato market, Ginginso market, Poase cement market, Ahamansu market, Dodi Papase market and Dodo Amanfro market.

Maxwell Kofi Asiedu, executive director of the Kadjebi district, told the Ghana news agency (GNA) that about 50 markets in the region would benefit from the exercise.

He said disinfection is being carried out in the eight municipalities and districts of the Oti region.

Mr. Asiedu, however, urged all interested citizens to comply with the instructions of the exercise, which aims to manage the spread of COVID-19 and also ensure the cleanliness of markets, truck stations and other public places. .

He also applauded the market traders for complying with the directive, which allowed the exercise to run smoothly.

Some traders have congratulated the government on its decision to carry out phase two of the disinfection exercise across the country.
